A little blog refresh

Updated: Aug 4

I’m still doing my reviews, but I realized I like talking to you more off the cuff & in a less structured, more random way, so I’m kinda changing my blog posts a bit. You’re free to let me know what you do or don’t like, but always remember, I’ll do what I want lol

So let’s get started with this blog refresh…

I heard someone criticize movie critics for dumping on Happy Gilmore 2 saying “I don’t know why these critics are crapping on something that was just supposed to be dumb”.  Let me help the stupid:  dumb doesn’t necessarily have to equal bad.  Airplane! is a dumb movie, but great. Happy Gilmore 2 is a dumb movie and terrible.  Some dad jokes are dumb, but good.  A joke told by a 3yo is probably gonna be dumb and terrible.  Just because a movie leans into dumb doesn’t give it carte blanche to SUCK. HG2 sucked. It’s ok to admit it. If you laughed at parts of it…great. But being able to step back from it and evaluate it in a movie-making-viewing sense is what I do. Sometimes something can be terrible, and you might not know why, but I can give voice to bloated plotlines, wasted character development, a movie that drags on too long, etc… So yeah, sometimes critics can get a bit over their skis and talk down to the average moviegoer, but not all of us. Some of us are legitimately trying to help you save your time and money. (Happy Gilmore 2 is on Netflix)

I watched Prometheus the other day and it was an ok movie. I’m a fan of almost anything Michael Fassbender does, so I felt the movie was a bit elevated just by him being in it compared to the actual storyline. Great visuals, but then Ridley Scott is solid in that area. I do think he gets bogged down in a bunch of ideas without fleshing out the why or what. Seeing the birth of the Xenomorph was pretty cool though    3.25/5

Next on the Aliens Universe list (in preparation for Alien: Earth on FX) is Alien: Covenant and based on the ratings for this one, I’m hoping it won’t be that bad. (Prometheus is on Hulu)

Finished American Scandal (podcast) on Ruby Ridge. Great listen. I highly recommend that podcast if you’re a history fan and like short-ish (30-40 min) episodes.  Each “season” highlights a less than stellar moment in American history. I like to think instead of it just crapping on American history, it informs us so we don’t suffer the same mistakes in the future.  But great little snippet stories to move you away from brain rot. (American Scandal is on most podcast services)

Finished 2 of the 4 Eyes of Wakanda as of this publishing. I’m liking it so far. Good twists on historical stories. I know Marvel is dropping all this stuff quietly to clear out the pipes before Doomsday, but I’m feeling bad for some of these decent shows that are paying the price for Marvel putting out slop for so many years. Can Marvel get their audience back?  I think they can, but it will be a loooooong road and I don’t know if studios have patience anymore. Eyes of Wakanda is on Disney+

Speaking of slop, ya girl is STILL working her way through Secret Wars II (85-86). My GOD, if there’s anything that gives me the current MCU any grace is knowing that not even all their comic events were homeruns. For those who don’t know, I’m not only reading the comic event, but the crossover issues as well. Secret Wars II has 42 (with a few issues not owned by Marvel anymore) and there hasn’t been a good one in the series yet. 28 down, 14 to go. Secret Wars II is found on the Marvel Unlimited app

That’s all I got on me brain at the moment, check in with y’all later xoxo
