After a lovely few days off from blogging, I'm back to catch you up on what I was up to last week with a Sunday scroll and what I have in store for this new week (maybe month, if I get crazy)

Caught Stealing (2025) starring Austin Butler, Zoe Kravitz, Matt Smith, Vincent D'Onofrio, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, and on and on...is Darren Aronofsky's punk rock version of a Guy Ritchie film. What seemed to be lacking from this 'wrong place, wrong time' modern-day noir film is the sleekness and posh vibe that you find in a Ritchie film. You do feel the grunge seeping through each scene, but too often the story skims the surface, and you never feel like you get to the bones. What this film does offer is a glimpse into a world you want to know more about in the scenes featuring D'Onofrio and Schreiber's Hasidic Jewish gangsters. I need a prequel that delves deep into the criminal underbelly where these two reside. But I digress; outside of further proof that Butler has the chops to carry a film, this movie is just lacking a certain something. No one moment gets to linger in your psyche before you're thrust into more craziness that at times can seem pretty predictable, even with all the twists and turns Aronofsky throws at you. Bright spot in this ok film? The cat. Trust me on this. Mega-star. 3.5/5
BEWARE OF SPOILERS BELOW

Alien: Earth and Peacemaker (Season 2) are moving their seasons along with some interesting developments. A:E finds us watching Marcy/Wendy imprint on a baby xenomorph, which can only lead to an emotional happy ending between "mother" and baby, right? Hopefully, a face hugger kisses Boy Kavalier soon, so we don't have to deal with any more of his bathrobe arrogance. Lord, I hate that character. This is a testament to the writing and acting (played by Samuel Blenkin). I mean, he's not Joffrey levels of hate, but my tolerance of billionaire man-children is pretty low at the moment. The quest that Morrow has sent Slightly on apparently leads to one of the few humans around...Joe, aka Marcy/Wendy's brother, and it doesn't look like Kirsh is jumping in to help either. There's a lot of "let's see how this plays out" amongst the group, and that can't lead to good things. I mean, what can go wrong with a bunch of adult-ish, still kid-like beings, an immature trillionaire, some synthetic beings, and a host of new nightmarish aliens all trapped in one place? Oh yeah, and one of the fake hybrids thinks she's pregnant...all animals, no keepers in this zoo.

Peacekeeper is showing us pretty clearly what Chris will be battling this season, and it looks like it'll be himself...ok, well, technically he already fought and killed that part, but now the temptation of sliding in and replacing the seemingly successful version of himself is growing more and more likely. Chris had everything: a loving father, a living brother, a relationship with Emilia, and a revered superhero career. Outside his inner demons and Rick Flag, Sr, not much seems to be standing in his way of walking through that interdimensional door and kissing his old life goodbye. Who knows, maybe Rick Flag, Sr will find Junior alive in that other universe and decide to forgive Chris. Hooray! Cut, roll credits. I actually do look forward to seeing how this season plays out. Especially with the rumors that the last 3 (?) episodes are so wild, it's almost like a whole new season. Not my words...just what's been said. So shoot those messengers, not me.

Looking ahead to the rest of this week...not much. I have Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale on Wednesday. I haven't even seen the other movie or watched more than one season of the show, so this should be a GREAT time trying to comprehend what I'm watching.
I'll do my best to watch the first movie and catch a series synopsis on YouTube, so I won't be horribly lost.
Outside of that...I wish we had gotten an advance screening to The Conjuring: Last Rites to give you guys the dish, but Warner Bros hasn't been swinging a bunch our (St. Louis) way, so boo.
More episodes of A:E and Peacemaker will drop. And of course football starts Thursday
Stay tuned for my final thoughts on the last issues of Secret War II (thank GOD that's finished) in a future blog.
