'Send Help' Needs an SOS

Sweet lord, we have almost reached the 310th day of January...

old woman, looks down, and starts a story
February isn't coming, is it?

You know what doesn't help, January? Unremarkable movies are being released.

That said, it hasn't been a particularly terrible month for movies.

Quite the ringing endorsement, eh?

Rachel McAdams & Dylan O'Brien in Send Help (2026)

Send Help wasn't good, it wasn't bad. It's a dark comedy with horror elements, so it balances humor and suspense, but overall, it was just ok.

Send Help is a fun movie IF you didn't see the trailer beforehand. The trailer promises intense suspense and horror, but the film delivers a watered-down experience that might disappoint those expecting more.

a man sitting in pants & tank top against a tree is looking at a woman sitting on a log across from him who is holding a knife
Well, well, well, how the turntables have turned...

Without spoilers, Send Help is about a jerk boss (Dylan O'Brien) and his awkward employee (Rachel McAdams) who get trapped on an island after their plane crashes on their way to a business trip. The former weak employee becomes the strongest on the island, and it is about how they are complete terrors to each other while trying to survive.

I watched the trailer and was entirely on board for a movie full of ridiculous gore and intense horror scenes. That's not what this movie delivers. There is some gore, one jump scene, and it tiptoes around suspense. Unfortunately, it doesn't fully commit to any of these aspects, which left me feeling kind of disappointed with what was left.

Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien deliver solid performances. However, their acting alone can't elevate a plot that struggles to find its identity, which might reassure viewers about the cast while also making them aware of the film's shortcomings.

Here piggy, piggy, piggy...

There's a fun, ridiculous scene with a killer boar that only leaves you wanting more of THAT, but not getting it.

Other flaws are the terrible CGI plane crash scene (pretty sure I saw more believable graphics in Air Force One during the crash... I kid, but not by much) and the slow 25ish minutes at the beginning where the movie struggles (and fails) to make us believe that Rachel McAdams is ugly and awkward. Like, she's not, we get what you're trying to do, so MOVE on.

Not worth a full $ movie ticket in my opinion, but if you enjoy dark comedies with horror elements and don't mind some flaws, you might have fun for $5/6 night at the theater. 3/5
