Nom nom nom, what was today's media diet?
Devoured The Red Scare on American Scandal and whew…I guess we don’t learn the lessons of history, do we? Yikes. I highly recommend the documentary ‘McCarthy’ on the PBS channel on Amazon Prime. Do I proudly donate to PBS? Yes, and if your ass grew up watching Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, The Electric Company...you would too. Choose to learn or don’t. I know my brain chooses to grow, learn, and expand every day. Use it or lose it. (PBS Documentaries is on Amazon Prime)

Hard Knocks is back! It’s bittersweet to hear that iconic theme music. I love football so much. Love everything about it. It’s the most beautiful brutal ballet. But it also signifies the end of the summer to me. Devastating. But I digress, this season tackles (ehhh?) the Buffalo Bills. I gotta say I love this team. I root for these guys. Is it because I love Josh Allen? Possibly. But I don’t see how you watch these guys, see their fans and not root for them. Highlights of the first episode: Dion Dawkins doing his Tokyo Drifting. And Thurman Thomas…I mean, come on. Big boys on little scooters. (Hard Knocks is on HBOMAX)

Freakier Friday was last night. I confess I had never seen the first one. It was 2003, I had my first daughter in April, so forgive me. BUT I did watch it before seeing the 22yr later sequel. I’m super glad I did too. The number of characters and jokes that are pulled from the first one is impressive. Not in a terrible way. I found myself enjoying the movie. And let’s be honest, Lindsay Lohan acted circles around Jamie Lee Curtis. And Jamie is no slouch in the acting department. Again, the whole Lohan era kinda passed me by, but from it is nice to see her making a comeback.
The sequel was entertaining as well. It does feel about 20mins too long, but nothing as egregious as Happy Gilmore 2’s starting hour. Outside of Curtis’s strange choice to act like a teenager that most certainly didn’t act like that at the beginning, overall, the movie was cute. I wouldn’t say it’s as good as the first, but if you were a fan of the first, the sequel deserves some streaming time. I don’t want to spoil too much of the movie, but the cameos used in this film worked well. Again, better than whatever that Happy Gilmore 2 celeb orgyfest. Hard not to compare two movies that had over two decades between the first and second. Even though I’m a huge advocate for people going TO the theater, I’m not sure this warrants a $20. Maybe a $5-6 special day if you were a FF fanatic, but I think its fair to wait for streaming (Freakier Friday is in theaters Aug. 7) 3.25/5
