Pirates find a ship, which self-destructs, but the Hutts take the contents, and they are to be auctioned off on the planet Hutta. Word reaches the Empire, the Republic, and even a Mandalorian about the contents, leading all parties to arrive on Hutta to see what the fuss is about. When the contents are revealed, while trying to be stolen by a Sith apprentice, everyone comes under attack from the droid hexes that seem to have a biological evolutionary characteristic to them. Each group ends up with a clue on how to reach the planet that these droids were created on. Everyone convenes at Sebbadon (hex planet) and, after being attacked by the hexes (released as a defensive mechanism), decides to work together. The Empire, Republic, and the Mandalorian realize the droid hexes pose a bigger threat and agree to put differences aside until the planet is destroyed. The Sith apprentice, Eldon Ax, is revealed to be the daughter of the hex creator and gains control of them. All parties leave Sebbadon, but tensions are building towards a war.
I obviously left a lot out in my summary. I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who does decide to read it or is making their way through the Legends series (like I am).
Fatal Alliance wasn't one of my favorite Legends books. I think that title still lies with Red Harvest.
It took me forever to get into, and by the time it started rolling, I was ready for it to be over. There are some mentions of the Treaty of Coruscant, the impending war, and the Mandalorians playing both sides against each other. There isn't enough meat in this one. 2.5/5
