Secret Wars II reading event: New Mutants #37

New Mutants #37 (1985)

I know this is waaaaaaaay late into my reading of Secret Wars II, but I'll jump in here now and do a comic summary from here on as I read future events. Let's get started: New Mutants #37...

Opens with the new mutants (the kiddos):

• Magik (Illyana Rasputin)

• Karma (Xuân Cao Mạnh) 

• Cannonball (Sam Guthrie) 

• Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair) 

• Cypher (Doug Ramsey) 

• Magma (Amara Aquilla) 

• Warlock 

• Mirage (Dani Moonstar) 

  sitting around watching an old John Wayne movie, while Dani Moonstar is on the phone with her mother, when she starts having visions of each of her teammates paired up with their own personal images of death and a vision of herself in her Valkyrie outfit. Seeing a final vision of Hela, Dani grabs her horse and flies into the sky, where Sam quickly catches up to her and talks her into returning back on land. Quickly the story turns to Bobby Da Costa, in a traffic jam where he helps, with the aid of SheHulk, rescue a girl from a collapsed construction machine. After the rescue he decides to head to Rio De Janiero to see his mother. The story shifts again to Dani & Sam seeing a flash of light, where everyone runs out of the mansion to see The Beyonder standing there, angry at his lack of understanding humanity. Magik quickly attacks, followed by the others, and they are all handily defeated just as Dani's visions predicted. Karma is the first to fall. It seems as if the kids get the upperhand, but The Beyonder rises, only to be angrier and more determined to wipe everyone out. Sam and Amara are killed next, followed by Warlock, Douglas, and Rahne. Dani, refusing to flee & trying to fight back is killed last. The Beyonder is lastly, shown erasing the new mutants, even the Xavier School from existence.

I'll be so glad when this reading event is over...Secret Wars II is terrible
